Sometimes, being “the graphic designer guy” among my friends and family can be… well… um… less than artistically fulfilling. Designing baby shower and wedding invitations can be a sweet gig for an awesome client. But let’s be honest, even if they’re awesome people, friends and family are rarely awesome clients. (Sorry, mom.) And yet, there are times when they are.

In this case, a friend is opening a women’s fashion boutique. By the time she contacted me, she had already selected a beautiful, evocative name: J’Amour (combining the ‘J’ from her first name, a “love” for fashion, and a little French-ness for good measure). So my task was pretty easy: just carry those aspects through to the logo.

We didn’t have time for a full logo workout, so she trusted me to find a good solution on my own. I was lucky enough to find a nice typeface that felt both classically French and feminine. And through some minor customization, I was able to turn the ‘A’ into a semi-popular French landmark.

J’Amour Boutique will open this fall inside JB’s Salon & Day Spa in LaVista, Nebraska.
